Hi girls, I'm back!
2013.01.19

 |
|
I'm sorry for the lack of updates on my cleo blog, cuz I've been really busy adjusting to my new non-schooling life. Haha yes, I have graduated from NTU! On one hand, it's like freedom suddenly - I don't have to study for exams anymore! On the other hand, I have to deal with LIFE now, and all the pressures of surviving in stressful Singapore.
And I'm still finding my way. To everyone out there who is having a hard time adjusting, here's a quote for you! If you're going through hell, keep going. ~ Winston Churchill
Since I haven't been here for awhile, there are quite a few updates on my blog that you have to see. First up, I'll start off with the activities then the beauty products in the next post.
1) I went to see Prince William and Kate when they came to Singapore last September! Haha read my comical post (more like I'm the comical one) here as I tried to catch a glimpse of the royal couple. Haha
2) I also became a kindergarten teacher for TWO days. Haha I was thinking, since graduating and I have no idea what to do with my career, why not just try everything? And that's how I managed to secure an 'internship' as a Kindergarten teacher. The children are so adorable, and I'm missing them right now as I type. But...
3) Came to this really old-school place for lunch one day and fell in love with its atmosphere. Its decor and everything the canteen uses is so vintage and reminiscent of the 1950's.
4) FINALLY, I'm thankful that I have found what I absolutely love to do! That is making bags/sleeves/pouches. Yup, 100% handmade from scratch! :D And I have an online store now, it's called Bearynaise.com. It showcases the work that I have done, and the gallery is ever growing! I have so much fun making those bags that I don't think I will ever stop. Please hop over to Beary Naise's Facebook Page and support local handmade businesses! :) Thank you so much. It's hard doing your own business in Singapore, but the smile on my customer's faces when they receive the product is more than enough to keep me going.
That's all for now folks, I'm going to be doing a beauty post next~ :) Thank you for dropping by!

A short post on my Outfit Of the Day... :D
2012.08.14

 |
I'm wearing a 'butterflowery' top from KissJane.com, sponsored by them for the fashion walk that I did to raise awareness on Ovarian Cancer. I love how light it feels on my skin, it's perfect for the hot and humid weather in Sg and Malaysia~ I'm usually not a 'prints person', so this is one of the colourful printed top I own. It can be refreshing to switch to colourful tops or dresses once in a while. :)

Bio-essence Tanaka White Renewal Night Cream Review
2012.07.04
20:32:10 |
 |
|
Bio-essence Tanaka White range of products has been in the beauty market for about 2 - 3 years now, but it's never too late for me to try it! There are so many creams out there, but I only have one face. Lol. And although it's the leading No.1 ALL TIME favourite skincare brand in Watson's, I'm sure there are ladies out there who still hasn't tried their products.
After receiving a pamphlet of samples from Joyce's Mary Chia Spa Party, I decided to dive into using the Bio-essence renewal night cream. Probably because I felt that my resting hours could be maximized to rejuvenate my skin. After all, sleep's still the best remedy right? :)
Just a quick introduction: Tanaka White series of creams promises a more youthful, fair and radiant skin. Its secret lies in Tanaka, a traditional whitening substance used by all women in Myanmar for more than 2000 years! Using modern bio-engineering techniques, Bio-essence has harvested highly-effective whitening, moisturizing and anti-infllammatory agents from the Tanaka tree bark, providing natural and effective care for the skin.
In the renewal night cream, there are goodies such as Tanaka extract, Ginseng and Aloe Vera, combined with Bio-energy fluid and Bio Mineral Essence to enrich the skin with mineral and trace mineral elements, vitamins and amino acids so that skin layers are strengthened and more elastic.
It is said to intensively repair skin cells while you sleep, achieving soft, fair and radiant skin the next morning.
The cream looks more like a gel, and requires massaging in a circular motion to be absorbed. It is thick, and somehow feels greasy when applied. I also had to wash the residual gel off my hands after application. But I was glad that the thickness and greasiness of the cream did not deter me, because I absolutely love the results in the mornings! When I woke up, the oiliness of the cream was gone, and instead, my face was smooth and soft to the touch.
"I love products that deliver their promises, and the Tanaka White renewal night cream is one of them." - Zoe, 23 (hahahaha)
I'm not kidding, after applying the night cream for 2 weeks continuously, my skin has become softer and smoother. Smoother due to the reduction in fine lines and softer due to my skin being moisturized and more supple. I love how I wake up with glowing skin in the morning, and I look as if I've slept a full 8 hours, even when I did not. Lol.
There's only one down side. This cream had me sleeping later and later each night! Cuz I was thinking, since lack of sleep does not affect the condition of my skin, and I wake up with glowing skin nonetheless, let's sleep later! Lol. Okay this is not very good advice, but that's what happened to me. It's still best to have enough sleep. :)
I am so tempted now to get the full bottle of the renewal night cream, but I still have so many other brand samples to try out! Remember to check this space for more review for those that worked, and those that didn't. Lol What worked for me might do for you too! :)
xoxo, Zoe

AHAVA Deadsea Mud Nourishing Body Cream Review
2012.06.07
15:18:08 |
 |
|
I recently tried AHAVA's Dermud Nourishing Body Cream and and it is pretty good! Packed with goodies like Deadsea mud, shea butter and vitamins, it calms irritated and reddish skin, leaving skin supple and hydrated. I seldom use body creams or skin moisturizers because I'm 1) lazy, 2) afraid of having eeky feeling on the skin. Especially in our warm climate, having thick, greasy creams on our body isn't a very wonderful feeling when we perspire and somehow there's this layer enveloping our skin, trapping all that heat. Then, the next thing you know, you're experiencing that eeky, sticky feeling.
But I kinda like this product.
Even though the first time when I squeezed a tiny amount out, I was a little sceptical cuz the cream was rather thick and creamy. I was surprised when I applied it on my arm. The cream was quickly absorbed and there was no sticky feeling. My skin felt instantly softened and smoother. No joke! It also had a distinct smell, almost like how it would smell like in a spa. I was quite excited that I proceeded to slather quite a bit on my legs.
I found it calming on the skin after I've shaved. I think many ladies out there shave without moisturizing after and then experience severe itchiness and bumps. One way to alleviate that is to moisturize :) and I found this product right for this occasion.
Another thing I'd recommend is to apply it onto the sole of your feet, especially the parts where all the harden skin are. Under your big toe, next to the littlest toe, and most importantly your heel. I found that applying this cream onto my feet left them soft and supple, like I just sat through a pedicure and my dead skin was scrubbed away. That was how amazing it felt. Although AHAVA has another cream just for the foot, I think the body cream is good enough.
AND most importantly, it didn't have that un-absorbed layer on my foot and have me leaving trails of cream on the floor ;)
Love, zoe mypeaceofheaven.com

There’s also the Bright Face Milk that promises to give you the glow and shine like Japanese/Korean girls.. Freeman Sugar Body Scrub Pomengranate Review
2012.03.29
01:13:16 |
 |
|
I’ve heard of bath salts, where they use salt to exfoliate, but bath sugar? It’s new to me.

I checked this out from my cart at TheSampleStore and received it a week later, along with other samples. They gave me 2 packets! At first I thought I could just apply it on my body, but the instructions say massage onto wet skin. So I used it in the shower. The moment I opened the packet, the smell was soooo good. It smelled like, sugar and pomegranate. Wait, that's what it's made of anyway. I wonder if we can eat it. Then I scrubbed it all over my body, the sugar dissolved really quickly, maybe too fast to achieve any serious exfoliating. So it was pretty gentle to the skin. Then I rinsed it all off, and goodness gracious, I still smelled like sugar and pomegranate. Yummy! :) Verdict: My skin was smoother after that, but I think I'll need more applications to find out if it really leaves skin younger like it promised. Haha that's so subjective. AND I suspect we can DIY this sugar + pomegranate concoction at home in the kitchen! So I guess I wouldn't really buy it from the drugstore. But getting it free from TheSampleStore... why not? ;)

Maybelline Clear Smooth BB White Cream Review
2012.03.22
15:11:32 |
 |
|
You know how some BB creams turn grey after oxidizing, and then your face becomes dull like a zombie? Worse, it turns purple and makes your face look bruised. Or those BB creams that don’t fulfill their promise as a ‘Blemish Balm’ and give you clogged pores and breakouts instead? Those are a horror and also the reasons why I stay away from BB creams. I’d never want my face of be of a different colour from my neck and shoulders! I have not been using BB creams for a very long time now, but I foresee myself changing that habit. Simply because I have found something brilliant. Introducing Maybelline Clear Smooth BB White Cream!
Ever since getting that packet of sample from CLEO’s magazine and making full use of that 1ml (seriously, I used it for 3 days!), I’m hooked. I can’t even begin to say how flawless it made my skin look. Away with all the nose pores, away with reddish zits and dullness. After applying, my skin was lifted and brightened, by possibly 3 shades (no kidding). Then finishing with loose powder to mattify my face, the effect was Boom Boom POW~ Just check out my unedited photos below for proof. . . . . Head over to http://mypeaceofheaven.com for the full review! :)
Cheers, Zoe

The Face Shop Herb Day Bubble Foam Cleanser - Green Leaf
2012.03.12
01:55:06 |
 |
|
I finally found my perfect type of facial cleanser – a bubble
foam cleanser! I have been using normal foam facial washes since my first
pimple outbreak, and I realize that such cleansers are usually too harsh on my
skin. They rip moisture off my skin and leave it flaky and a tad too dry. And
when the skin’s low in moisture, it means pimple outbreaks.
This is probably the reason why I couldn’t maintain a clear
face even though I was washing it religiously – up till the day my sister
brought a bottle of bubble foam cleanser home!
From then on, I was a convert. I’m on my second bottle now
and not planning to switch back to normal foam cleansers.
This is what I’m using currently.
Pros
Bubble foam cleansers are so much milder on the skin, and
cleanse just as well or maybe even better than normal cleansers too. After
every wash, my skin feels smooth, really clean and soft. It also feels cool,
which means that moisture is retained.
As a result, my breakouts have decreased too.
Cons
One bottle may last you a shorter time than soap cleansers
as you might pump out more than what you need.
The price is also more expensive than common foam cleansers.
For eg, Biore’s Marshmallow Whip is $13.90 at Watson’s, then The Face Shop’s
Green Leaf Bubble Foam Cleanser is $21.90 from The Face Shop.
For me, I’m just happy that I’ve found a match. J

Himalaya Herbals Under Eye Cream Review
2012.03.11
00:58:29 |
 |
|
When
I saw this little tube featured in Beauty SOS spread (Pg 66) in the March's
issue of Cleo, I thought I could do a review for readers who might be
interested to get it.

What?
Himalaya Herbals'
Under Eye Cream 15ml
Why?
If you're plagued by
dark eye circles and under eye puffiness, this could be a god-send.
Stress, lack of sleep, bad dieting habits, and hormonal changes can lead to
poor blood micro-circulation under your eyes, causing dark eye circles. Plus,
the skin under the eyes is very delicate and thin, so after years of putting on
eye make-up and removing them with cotton pads, you might not even be surprised
that wrinkles are starting to form (yikes!).
How?
This mighty tube of
eye cream contains a natural blend of herbal actives that promises to clear
under eye circles, pigmentation and blemishes. It also brightens and smoothen
the area.
Active ingredients:
·
Cipadessa baccifera moisturizes
·
Bergenia ligulata lightens
·
Triticum vulgare nourishes
Where?
$19.90 at Watson’s
My verdict
I had this cream for quite a while
now, when I bought it during Watson’s members’ sale. Got it at an unbelievable
price of $9.90! What a steal, and it proved to deliver the results that it
promised. After two nights of applying the cream to my under eye, I could see
that the area was indeed less puffy and smoother. However, after two weeks of
continuous application, the improvements were not as great as before. I think
most probably my under eye has reached its limit to be ‘saved’, and has gotten
accustomed to the cream. So I stopped using it.
After one month of not using the
cream, my dark eye bags are back (glooms…). I’m planning to start using it
again.
How to apply:
Squeeze about the size of a grain of
rice of cream onto your fourth finger.
Massage lightly onto the under eye
area.
Note: Using your fourth finger to
handle the delicate eye area can reduce the force applied and prevent tugging
on the skin.
Perks
This unique blend of herbal actives
is actually filed for patent in the US, and to me, if something has to be patented;
it’s gotta be good to prevent others from copying, right? Haha.
Cheers!
