Eau Thermale Avene Serenage Beauty Workshop

2012.11.05 00:49:04

This beauty workshop organized by Avene and Guardian was held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel. The registration was at 1.30 pm but being an eager participant, I was there earlier; despite the fact I had started my journey from my home state in the morning of the event. The car trip was a tiring three hour journey.

The workshop touched on the topic of anti ageing and how Avene’s products has helped those with sensitive skin. The participants were given tips on how to regain a radiant and healthy complexion by Avene experts.  We had two amazing speakers for this workshop, Mr. Damien Tavernier (PFDC Asia Pacific Trainer) and Dato Dr. Low Bin Tick (Dermatologist).

Mr. Damien Tavernier presented an interesting introduction on Avene. Medical statistics and pictures were used to show participants on how Avene products are able to help those suffering with skin problems (atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis etc). Mr Damien’s presentation was quite impressive. The interesting fact which I found most refreshing was that Avene products are infused with 70% of Avene’s Thermal Spring Water and this creates a soothing, anti irritant and anti inflammatory effect.

Review : Derma Health’s SkinLabs Concentrated Vitamin E Cream

2012.10.08 05:53:22
A few months back, I picked up Derma Health’s SkinLabs Concentrated Vitamin E Cream from the drugstore. I was attracted by its high i.u of Vitamin E which is ideal for the treatment of scars, stretch marks, dehydrated skin, blemishes, sunburn and ageing skin. I purchased this product particularly to lighten the acne marks on my face. After using it consistently for about four months, I did notice improvement in my skin. My scars are much more faded and closer to my skin colour.

Why toothbrush is an essential beauty tool?

2012.10.03 04:59:56

This may somehow surprise you but the truth is, toothbrush is an amazing beauty tool. After realizing how handy can it be, you might even grab an extra toothbrush from the drugstore.

5 ways to use this tool :

1)    Exfoliate lips

Run your toothbrush under warm water and gently brush your lips with it. Add sugar as a lip exfoliator to remove dead skin, also to keep your lips soft and smooth. Exfoliation makes your lipstick colour to last longer.

2)    Apply hair dye

Touch up your hair or roots using a toothbrush. Using a toothbrush works wonders and makes sure the colour is evenly distributed.

3)    Clump free lashes

After applying mascara, you may notice clumps on your eyelashes. How to remove them? Wiggle the toothbrush gently from the root to the tip to get clump free lashes.

4)    Groom your eyebrows

A brow brush is used to groom eyebrows. Don’t have one? Use a toothbrush instead! Brush your unruly brows to make them stay put.

5)    Scrub your elbows and knees

Exfoliate your elbows and knees so that they don’t turn rough and dry. Scrub them using a toothbrush and soap.

Tips :

·         Use a soft bristle toothbrush

·         Always moisturize the skin after exfoliation

·         If the toothbrush exfoliation is giving rise to new pimples, stop using immediately

Qualities Men Should Have

2012.08.31 07:05:26
I came across this viral video a few days back. Well, I’m not going to summarize what’s in this video. I might just end up with a long essay and who loves essays? No one! So, watch this video before you continue reading this.

Today, I have decided to come up with a so-so not my kind of post.  Guess what’s the title - “Qualities Men Should Have”(my preference).

Fit

I’m a sports person; so I would prefer a guy who is fit and plays sports as well. If a guy takes the time to keep fit, this is usually a sign of how he goes about with everything else, including his work and personal life. Being fit shows a person has self discipline and goes out of his way to achieve his goals. This kind of a guy is a goal-setter in my book. Having this trait definitely puts a guy ahead in his career.

Tip of the day : Freeze your eyeliner!

2012.08.31 05:07:20

When you wake up in the morning, place your eyeliner in the freezer for about 10 minutes or more. This will help to solidify it and avoid it from crumbling when using or before sharpening it.

Tip of the day : Heat your Eyelash Curler!

2012.08.27 08:11:26

Curling your lashes is an essential makeup process. Today, I would love to share a quick beauty tip that will help to curl your eyelashes even better!

Before you curl your lashes, heat up your curler using a hair dryer for about 5-10 seconds. Make sure it isn’t too hot. If your lashes are not curling much, heat the curler for five more seconds. A heated eyelash curler will give longer lasting curls and dramatize your eyes.

Say Goodbye to Panda Eyes!

2012.08.21 06:35:04

Dark circles can be a result of allergies, lack of sleep, heredity or medications. It can be an issue for lots of people. However, there are plenty of ways to minimize the appearance of dark circles. Keep reading and learn how!

Tea bags – Tea bags reduce discoloration and swelling. Lie down and place the chilled tea bags over your eyes for about 10-15 minutes .

Raw potato – Potatoes can be used to relieve swelling under the eyes and also to lighten your peepers.  Place raw potatoes over the eyes and lie down for 10-15 minutes.

Frozen spoon – This method reduces eye bags temporarily and keeps the swelling down. Hold the frozen metal spoon over your eyes for a few minutes.

Lemon juice – Lemon acts as a natural bleach. After a few treatments, there will be a noticeable change in the texture of skin. Squeeze a lemon in a bowl, take a cotton ball and dab it with the juice. Apply under the eye and let it dry for about 10-15 minutes.

Almond oil – Almond oil is a very effective way to minimize the appearance of dark circles. Do a regular under eye massage using almond oil for about 10-15 minutes. Practice this method twice a day.

Gentle massage – Gently massage your eyes for at least 15 minutes in a circular motion to improve the blood circulation.

Extra tips :

      -  Avoid rubbing your eyes. Rubbing irritates the skin and breaks the capillaries, leading to discolouration and puffiness.

      -  Do not take too much fluids before bedtime. This will cause eye bags.

Are CC creams the new BB cream?

2012.08.19 10:04:25

CC creams (Colour Control Cream) are improved version of BB creams. This product has been gaining popularity in Korea and UK. What are actually CC creams? How do they differ from BB creams?

These new creams have lighter texture and non-oily formulation which is great for acne-prone skin. CC creams act as a moisturizer, primer, foundation, anti-aging cream and SPF. They provide a better coverage and a higher SPF for additional protection against the UVA and UVB rays. It blends with the skin very well and covers uneven skin tones better than BB creams. CC creams come in different shades, from light to dark while BB creams are only suitable for lighter skin tones.

We have been witnessing a huge impact of BB creams over the past few years and I am expecting the same with CC creams.

Do you think CC creams will be a big trend just like the BB cream?

Sponsored Review – Silkygirl Duo Eye Shadow (25 Golden Jade, 27 Silver Star)

2012.08.16 03:42:02

Silkygirl says,

“Eye-mazing eye colors to liven up your eyes. Comes in an array of matte, shimmering or glittery finish. Shades go from earthy and pastel to vibrant hues. Ultra-fine texture for a super smooth application.(source: www.silkycosmetics.com)

My verdict:

Silkygirl is one of the cheapest drugstore brand in Malaysia. Their products are amazing especially the duo eye shadows. The shades are ridiculously gorgeous and costs around 16.90 MYR per unit which is very affordable! They come in a simple clear plastic container with a mini sponge applicator, not bulky at all. However, it is quite difficult to apply the eye shadow with its small applicator.

The colours (27 Silver Star) are pigmented and shows up amazingly in pictures. These duos provide such a beautiful shimmer and I absolutely love them! It has a moderate staying powerThe colour fades towards the end of the day. With a primer, you can expect it to last longer.

Sponsored Review: Silkygirl’s Moisture Shine Lipcolor (03 Baby Rose, 02 Innocent Pink)

2012.08.10 11:00:02

A few weeks back, Silkygirl sent me a bag of their products to review on. Here’s what I got :

1) Skin Perfect CC 2-Way Foundation (04 Medium)

2) Duo Eye Shadow (26 Hazy Pink, 24 Purple Storm, 25 Golden Jade, 27 Silver Star)
3) Precision Sharp Eyeliner Pen (01 Blackest Black)
4) Moisture Shine Lipcolor (02 Innocent Pink, 03 Baby Rose, 04 Simply Nude)

Some of the products will be given away for a sponsored giveaway, so stay tuned peeps! Thanks SILKYGIRL

For now, let’s start off with with a review on Silkygirl’s Moisture Shine Lipcolor.

Silkygirl says :

"Moisture Shine Lipcolor comes with four main and natural ingredients to help keep lips smooth, soft and supple. Vitamin E prevents aging and reduces fine lines, while Squalene protects lips against wrinkles. Sweet Almond Oil contains softening and nourishing properties and, Evening Primrose Oil acts as a moisturizer to nourish and hydrate lips. The lipcolor is fragrance-free."(source: www.silkycosmetics.com)

My verdict :

I love how the product feels on my lips and I find it very comfortable to wear. It has a moisturizing effect which keeps my lips hydrated. It has a slick consistency that glides easily onto lips, applies quite nicely and evenly. This lipstick is pretty cheap, only at 17.90 MYR. It also gives a little glitter on my lips. This lipstick comes in a plastic tube which is just fine for me. However, a few improvements can be made in terms of the design

This lipstick lasts for about 2-3 hours. It appears to be sheer on my lips. I have to apply 2-3 layers to witness the color it gives. However, my lips definitely look healthier than before!

-I’m wearing 03 Baby Rose-

Sunscreen vs. Sunblock

2012.07.31 18:02:14

Are there any differences between sunscreen and sunblock?  Most people refer sunblock as sunscreen and vice versa. In fact, manufacturers often interchange this terms, so relying on the product’s name is not an option. So how can you actually differentiate these two things?

The Similarities :

Both sunscreen and sunblock protect your skin from the harmful UV rays

- Sunscreen absorbs into the skin and reflects the UV radiation on the skin

- Sunblock sits on top of your skin and blocks the sun’s UV rays

The Differences :

Sunscreen :

- Usually colourless.

- Appears as clear film when applied.

- Protects against UV radiation.

- Cannot be reapplied on top of old sunscreen. Sunscreen is meant to be absorbed into the skin to provide protection. The old sunscreen which has lost its protective properties will not be able to allow the new sunscreen to absorb properly. If you wish to reapply, remove the old sunscreen first. However, sweat can actually wash off the sunscreen, so reapplication may work only if the skin is dry.

Sunblock :

- Comes in different colours.

- Protects against UVB and UVA light (The ‘A’ in UVA stands for Ageing and the ‘B’ in UVB stand for Burning).

- Stays longer compared to sunscreen.

- Can be reapplied on top of old sunblock.

Choose the right SPF!!

The SPF Formula :

SPF Number x Time to Burn without Protection = Time to Burn With Protection

For example, if your skin takes 15 minutes to burn without sunblock, SPF 30 will give you 450 minutes in the sun until you burn.

XOXO
