Hello, long weekend!

2010.08.24 23:05:18

And hello my lovelies!

So, the public holiday for Selangor this Friday came as a bit of a surprise. Who am I kidding, it came as a huge surprise, like finding out Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny were real after all! Tee hee.

So I've planned a sleep in, maybe a night out with mates, chill time with the boychum, a much needed pedicure and to top off my excitement, I remembered that Bizarre Bazaar is on from 11am - 7pm at Mist Club in Bangsar this Saturday and Sunday. I don't know about you but these shindigs aren't to be missed if you love vintage buys or plain and simply, a good bargain!

So, what tricks are you getting up to this weekend?

A year's supply of Krispy Kreme anyone?

2010.08.02 18:16:40

Yes, you read right, a year's supply of these bad boys!!

In conjunction with the opening of the newest outlet on the Ground Level of Plaza Shah Alam this Friday (6th of Aug 2010), Krispy Kreme will be giving away sweet treats to the first 100 fans that stand in line and purchase a dozen of Krispy Kreme’s doughnuts when the store officially opens at 10.00am that day.

The first person to purchase a dozen of Krispy Kreme’s doughnuts will receive the golden ticket - entitling them to a year’s supply of Krispy Kreme melt-in-your-mouth doughnuts. The second to the 100th person will also be receiving attractive treats from Krispy Kreme.

So, for all you doughtnut lovers out there, be there or be square! (Hmmm, square doughnuts? I'm sure they'd taste just as good. Tee hee!)

I count sheep

2010.07.21 22:37:32

Yes, I actually tried it but I often found my mind wandering to where, what and how my sheep were jumping rather than the numerical task. I imagined beautiful, vast green meadows, a bubbling brook and a old but sturdy wooden fence built by generations of men from the same family (yawn)...but I never get further than that...Zzzzzz

This brings me to my observation, I really don't think there's an all encompassing ONE way for all of us to achieve sleep. I know people who swear by a warm glass of milk before bed but that just makes me go to the loo; I know of people who close all the curtains so not a shred of light comes through but that just leaves me really groggy when I do have to wake up in the morning.

So, what is the secret to a good night's rest...

Think about it this way, sleeping is like breathing, nobody thought us how to do it; even babies came equipped with the ability. Nowadays, our sleeping problems lie (hahah, I made a pun) instead in the fact that we work ourselves into such a frenzied state all day every day that we've actually forgotten how to let go and contentedly exist without doing a single thing. Tell me this, when was the last time you had a break from it all? Sigh, I don't remember either, but I do vaguely recall how good it felt and how well I slept. So, I've decided to take comfort in knowing if I've achieved a good night's sleep once, I'm already half way to achieving it again and if this is what it takes so I'm energized to handle life, it is worth the brain work. I took a moment to figure out how I could improve or induce a relaxed state before bedtime to ensure a smooth journey to slumberland.

Switch off the TV - This one might not be for everyone but I've read that as much as it seems to not require effort to watch the idiot box, it's still visual stimulus for the brain. So, I switch it off an hour before bedtime to give my brain a break.

Warm shower and comfy jammies - I think most people I know like a shower before bed. There's nothing like the feeling of clean as you hop into bed. I try though to enhance the experience by choosing a shower gel that makes me think of sleep. I know that seems silly but lavender works wonders while rose scents remind me of my mum and eucalyptus reminds me of my childhood bathtimes. On top of that, I've actually designated a section of my comfiest clothes for sleep. That way as soon as I put it on it helps trigger or remind my brain that sleep is the effect I'm going for!

Read in bed - I now gladly swap TV time for curling up under the covers with a good book. Remember all those times you fell asleep when you were cramming for an exam? Words on a page have a way of lulling or if not, boring us into a state of slumber. Just try and read something calming rather than a thriller or horror ok?

Hmmm, all this talk of sleep is making me drowsy, maybe its time for a power nap!

So, how do you unwind before bed?

Calming ways for stressful days!

2010.06.02 19:31:43
Hidy ho, CLEO readers!

Lovely to meet you and thanks for stopping by.

I'm sorry it's taken me this long to do my first post but I've only just reached my 3 month mark at CLEO so I'm still settling in! I recall being super overwhelmed on my first day but am happy to report that things are slowly but surely falling into place. Still, everyday holds mostly fun but often stressful challenges. I've learnt that you simply MUST find ways to hold on to your sanity when the going gets tough. But how?

1. Healthy foods are friends!
Stress makes you hungry, no? I know we're all guilty of stress eating/bingeing. I would especially crave for greasy (my then excuse was flavoursome haha) junk food. I've gotten better though but only because I started pre-empting my cravings. I attack it with crunchy, healthy snacks like raw cashews or carrots and celery sticks aptly placed on my desk. I've found that even the act of crunching calms me; it's like chewing therapy! Often times its more a feeling of emptiness perceived as hunger so I think the act of consuming something fixes that sensation so you can get on with it!

2. Liquid indulgences
But not the alcoholic kind! I swim. It started out as the only form of exercise I could fit into my day regardless of how late I'd get home. Pretty soon I noticed the simple act of being in the water was so soothing! If you think about it, our bodies are 60-70 percent water so maybe like sound, the calm water in the pool resonates to calm the water in your body. I'm no scientist though but I know of some cool people that agree - Christian Louboutin goes to his home in Portugal and spends everday drawing, running and swimming in a very cold sea. Don't think i could do the cold part but if it works for him, I just might consider taking the plunge! (pun intended)

So, how do you stay sane at work?
