Rising Asians in Hollywood PDF Print E-mail

More and more Asian actors in Hollywood are being offered parts that are diverse and have more substance. In fact, some of these are major roles in big movies.

We celebrate this welcome change with a list of some of the hottest rising Asian stars in Hollywood.

Grace Park
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Canada, the actress is of Korean descent. She currently plays one quarter of the crime fighting team in the new Hawaii Five-0.

Best known for her dual roles in sci-fi series Battlestar Galatica.


Daniel Henney
The six foot two hottie has an American father and Korean-American mother. His latest role is that of a doctor in medical drama, Three Rivers although he’s announced plans to film a new TV series in Korea. He also appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as one of the villainous mutants.

Best known for his role in Korean drama, My Name is Kim Sam Soon.



Brenda Song
A mix of Hmong Chinese and Thai-American, the actress started as a child star in Disney movies and shows. She recently had a role as the psychotic girlfriend of Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network.

Best known for her role as a spoiled hotel heiress in Disney’s sitcom, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.


John Cho
He scored one of the biggest roles in his career, getting the iconic part of Hikaru Sulu in the latest version of Star Trek. He also headlined TV series, FlashForward with Joseph Fiennes. The LA native was born in Seoul, Korea.

Best known for his role as Harold in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.
 



Freida Pinto
Formerly a model for Elite Model Management, she was selected as the leading lady in Slumdog Millionaire, which immediately shot her into worldwide stardom. She will next appear as a scientist who studies primates opposite James Franco in Rise of the Apes, the prequel to Planet of the Apes.

Best known for her award-winning role in her first movie, Slumdog Millionaire.


Dev Patel
The British native of Gujarati Indian descent was already making a name in the UK with his performance in drama series, Skins. He’s last seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender.

Best known for his role in Slumdog Millionaire.



Stephanie Jacobsen
Born in Hong Kong with a Portuguese-Chinese-Norwegian-English heritage, the beauty has appeared in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Australian soap opera, Home and Away.

Best known for her current role as a medical student in the revamped Melrose Place.


Jay Chou
Most people (in Asia, especially) know him as a singer of melancholic songs. Then he started delving in acting and has come a long way since his early acting days, winning the coveted role of Kato in the highly anticipated movie, The Green Hornet.

Best known for his role in Initial D.
 



Lindsay Price
Mixed Korean, German and Irish, you may have seen her in many TV shows, what with major roles in the original Beverly Hills 90210, Lipstick Jungle and her latest, Eastwick.

Best known for her turn in Lipstick Jungle.
